Adam Wiley's love of his job is paying off with a nomination for the 2020 Regional Broker of the Year.
The award is for a regional broker that best represents the industry.
It's the second time Mr. Wiley has been nominated and he said it was a huge accolade.
The Dubbo broker established Regional Finance Brokers three years ago after moving back to town.
"You always hear about finance people in the city but being a regional broker is the best. I don't envy the city guys one bit," Mr. Wiley said.
"We have some really good real estate agents, we've got some great solicitors, good property prices -our property prices don't go down a lot and they don't go up a lot, we're very stable - excellent clientele. It's a very good place to be a broker in my opinion."
He's seen the difference first hand after starting his brokering career in Melbourne.
The clients are one of the best bits about the job, Mr Wiley says, especially first home buyers.
"To have someone come into my office and say 'we've been to our bank or we've been to our institution and they've said no'. The best part is when you ring them up and say 'guess what? Your finance is all approved'," he said.
"The sheer excitement that you get from a first home buyer moving into their first home. It's one of those times they'll never forget and I'm a part of that."
Mr. Wiley, who has a Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking and a Diploma in Finance and Mortgage Broking, said Dubbo residents were very receptive to mortgage brokers.
"Out of 10 people, eight would go to a mortgage broker in my opinion," he said.
"When you come to me, I've got all of the products and I will tell you exactly what's best. You don't have to deal with the bank, we do the whole thing for you."
Regional Finance Brokers also doesn't charge fees for its services. Mr. Wiley is paid through a commission from the lenders.
It's a business that has been growing. About 10 to 15 mortgages per month are settled through Regional Finance Brokers.
The business currently has two staff, but Mr Wiley is hoping within the next 12 months that will increase to four or five to allow him to keep up with the demand.
The winners of the 2020 Broker of the Year Awards will be announced at a live-streamed event on July 17.
There are 27 award categories to be announced.
The Regional Broker of the Year is judged based on criteria such as loan volumes, customer service, and business processes.
Mr. Wiley said it was an honor to be nominated by someone in the finance industry. He was excited to find out if Australia's best regional broker would be someone in Dubbo.
